In 2007, our founder was riding through the streets of downtown Atlanta, Georgia.  She began to cry when she saw more and more homeless people sleeping on the streets, in the parks, on benches and even under the highway underpass.  She knew she could not help each and every homeless person in Atlanta, but she wanted to do what she could.  So, on the way home, she stopped and went into the 24-Hour grocery store to buy some things to give them.  She bought some bologna, bread, mayonnaise, apples, cheese, chips, sandwich bags, ice for the cooler, paper cups and gallons of water.  She went to sleep that night with a new found hope because she knew she was going to get up and help her fellow homeless friends.

She got up the next morning and set everything up in the living room.  She sat there for hours getting everything together.  Being so tired, there were times when she questioned why she was doing it.  She wanted to quit.  But, seeing them on the streets made her keep going.  Once done, she packed everything into the car.  She stopped on the way to get ice to put in the cooler for the water.  Not knowing where she was going specifically, she headed downtown.  On her way there, she saw one homeless man.  She pulled over and asked if he wanted a paper sack lunch.  He did and simply said "Thank You Ma'am!"  As he grabbed his shopping cart with all of his worldly belongings, she began to cry again.  She knew that what she was doing was right.  She knew that all of the fussing while her hands cramped up from making 50+ lunches was worth it.

She put her car in drive and continued downtown.  She met up with dozens of people at a park downtown and gave each of them a paper sack lunch.  Her heart filled with love when one recipient said, "Oh thank you so much!  This is going to be all I'm going to eat today."  She reached beside her and gave the woman another one.  The woman began to cry and said, "Bless you ma'am.  God Bless you!"  Emotional as our founder was, she maintained her composure until she pulled away from that park and began to travel to the next location.   She broke down yet again wondering why it's like this for so many people.

Once she got to her next location, she passed out all of the lunches and on the last lunch, a gentleman said, "What church are you with?"  She replied, "None, it's just me and God working out here today."  He said, "You're not with any organization?"  She said, "Nope, it's just me trying to help out as much as I can."  He said, "Well the world needs more people like you in it!"  That statement made it final.  She knew she had to begin to do this on a regular basis.  She knew she had to help!

That day, without even knowing it herself, Paper Sack Lunch was formed.  She's handling a 9-5 job along with a few side businesses that she owns, but her heart always longs to find more ways to help people.  She says it's her life calling, to help people in whatever way she can.

To this day she still does it out of her own pocket most of the time, but she still delivers paper sack lunches to the homeless and less fortunate in the Atlanta, GA area.  Now, with PaperSackLunch.org we are well on our way to help even more people on a more consistent basis.

Her dream is to one day have a non-profit kitchen where the hungry can come and dine like they are in a fine restaurant and regain some of the respect they've lost for themselves.  She wants this restaurant to be in the lobby of the Hotel she wants to purchase and refurbish to house the homeless as they transition into becoming self-reliant again.

It's very interesting how the thoughts and prayers of one person can blossom into what PaperSackLunch.org is now and how it's growing on a steady basis.   God truly has His hands on Paper Sack Lunch.  We have provided blessings to many people - not only to those being served, but reaching abundantly to those doing the serving!
